Many universities, including most of the Russell Group, make offers in grades (e.g. AAB) rather than points. Values from the official UCAS Tariff tables; always confirm with UCAS and your course page.
UCAS Tariff points translate Level 3 qualifications into a single number so universities can express entry requirements across different qualification types. An A-level A* is worth 56 points, an A is 48, and so on down to 16 for an E. GCSEs carry no points.
Not every course uses points. Higher-tariff universities usually state offers in grades (AAB), which the Tariff cannot substitute: 128 points from other combinations does not satisfy an AAB offer. Points-based offers (for example, 112 points) are more common at post-92 universities and for BTEC-friendly courses.
