It reads for you, not for grammar.

Spell checkers and generic AI graders look at sentences. Admissions readers look for what the essay shows about you. That is what the preview reads for.

It quotes your words.

Every point points at a phrase in your essay, so you know exactly where to look. No advice that would fit anyone's draft.

It never ghostwrites.

No suggested sentences, no "stronger version". You get the diagnosis and the questions, and the rewrite stays yours, as Common App requires.

Questions

Before you paste it in

Is the essay checker really free?

Yes. The preview costs nothing and needs no card. It is one free preview per essay and per email address, and it is sent to your inbox, so use an address you can open.

Why does the free preview not give me a score?

Because we would rather give you no number than a rough one. The score in the full report comes from a separate scoring pass, calibrated on essays colleges published as ones that worked, plus an AI-detection check. The preview skips both, so it shows you what to fix instead of guessing a score.

Will you rewrite my essay?

No, never, in the free preview or the full report. Common App asks you to affirm that your essay is your own work. We quote your sentences, explain what is and is not working, and ask the questions that get the better version out of you.

Does the free checker test for AI writing?

Not the preview. The full report runs your essay through an independent AI detector and explains which lines read as generic, without ever telling you how to get around a detector.

How long does it take?

Usually 3 to 5 minutes. If it is not in your inbox after 10, search for Statementory and check spam or promotions.

What happens to my essay?

It is used to write your preview and kept for up to 48 hours, so you can order the full report without pasting it again. Then it is deleted. We never sell your data or use your essay for advertising.

Is Statementory part of Common App?

No. Statementory is an independent essay feedback tool and is not affiliated with Common App or any college.
